Many Democrats are remaining cautious on the topic of
impeachment following the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on
President Donald Trump, his campaign, and Russia, but many others are saying it
is time to begin proceedings, including:
·
Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass: “The severity of this misconduct
demands that elected officials in both parties set aside political
considerations and do their constitutional duty,” Warren tweeted. “That
means the House should initiate impeachment proceedings against the President
of the United States.”
·
Julian Castro: It would be “perfectly reasonable” to initiate
impeachment proceedings, he told CNN.
·
Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.: Introduced a resolution last month
calling for the House Judiciary Committee to investigate Trump for impeachable
offenses.
·
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.: Says she backs Tlaib’s
resolution.
·
Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota, is also supporting Tlaib’s call
for an impeachment investigation.
·
Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass.: Said on Twitter over
the weekend that “in times of greater consequence, let’s be clear” and added
the hashtag “impeach Trump.”
·
Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn.: Told MSNBC Friday that “I
believe impeachable offenses have been committed,” Cohen, who introduced five
articles of impeachment against Trump in November 2017, told MSNBC
Friday. “I believe it’s worthwhile to put in the history’s files what this
man has done, and impeach him. But I don’t think it’s going to happen
politically. I think a middle ground would be a censure.”
·
Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif.: Told MSNBC’s “AM Joy” Sunday, that
she is calling out Republicans’ patriotism if they supported impeaching
President Bill Clinton, but not Trump, reports Real
Clear Politics.
·
Rep. Al Green, D-Texas: Made his third call for Trump’s
impeachment Thursday, reports CW39 in
Houston. He said if the Judiciary Committee won’t bring it to the
floor, he’ll introduce the resolution himself.
·
Billionaire San Francisco activist Tom Steyer: Plans an
impeachment town hall in Pleasanton, Calif., Tuesday, according to The San
Francisco Chronicle. The event is in the congressional district of Rep. Eric
Swalwell, who is a Democratic candidate for president. The key Democratic donor
has vowed to push all party presidential candidates into supporting Trump’s
impeachment.
